Counting Contractions

Why does it seem that Saturday nights seem to have so much drama these past few weeks? Well true to form this one was no difference.

So it is a little before 10pm and we were settling down for bed, when all of a sudden Joanna goes quite and makes this "uncomfortable" face, that was just the start. For the next two hours we are counting these contractions. Now they range from 8 min to 11 min to 5 min apart. So for the first time it really sunk in, this could be it. So during these two hours what do you do? I mean who wants to sit in bed for two hours wondering when the next one will hit, or waiting for a pattern to form. So I did what any good husband did, I found us a movie to watch. So what was the movie of choice you ask?? Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo. Ok so it did not win any awards but it served its purpose.

After midnight we gathered that the contractions were not the real show so we went to bed. Sunday turned out to be a little more of the same, about four contractions every hour or so, but again no rhyme or reason. We will see what this week holds but it appears that we are on the way and Ruth will be here sooner than we think.

Things you don't say at 38 weeks pregnant

Picture this if you can. SO it is around 10:30pm and I have just finished watching the first half of the Gator Bowl where MSU has a commanding lead. I am about to turn out the light when Joanna says to wait and let her go to the bathroom first. So she attempts to get out of the bed, I help by giving her a gentle push to help her along, and off she goes. She gets back in the bed and now we are ready to head to dreamland, no not this place.
http://www.dreamlandbbq.com/default.aspx

So I turn out the light and I am saying my prayers when I hear... "OH MY GOSH... YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!"

Now pretend you are me and you are talking to God and your wife screams out the above phrase. What would you do?
  1. Ignore it and act like nothing is going on and try to fall asleep.
  2. Leap out of bed and grab the suitcase, throw the dog out, and crank the car.
  3. Calmly roll over and say "Is something wrong dear?"
Ok, so I did neither of the options above, however I know my pulse went out of control. So what was the big deal you say??? Well it seems that Ruth decided to put her knees in Joanna's belly and press as hard as she could to see if maybe she could just "pop" out the belly button. Needless to say that did not happen and Joanna and I talked about what you should and should not say when it is late and we are in the bed, especially at 38 weeks pregnant!!

Easter Eve

What a great day! It seems to be a reoccurring theme that our weekends are busy, very busy. Well of course this Saturday was no difference but we knew it would be. Every Saturday before Easter Sunday we go to Carthage for a family meal and fellowship. As always we had a blast and there is no shortage of some GREAT home cooking. After lunch there is an Easter egg hunt for the "kids". Well this year we were short on some "kids" so all of us got into the action. As you can see below it was a good time.

Once we got home we decided we would take a couple of photos of Joanna and her belly since we have not done that in a while. We also thought it would be a good idea to get a photo of us since we have not taken one in a long time. Below are those photos.

Tomorrow, Easter Sunday, we will head to Yazoo after church to do it all over again. Eat, hunt Easter eggs, and spend time with family. Should be a good day.

Pre Birthday Weekend

Well it has been some time since our last update but thankfully no more car wrecks or trips to the hospital to report. However this weekend was a "surprise" birthday dinner for Joanna. I have to say I enjoy planning these and it is even better when the person has no clue.

So the plan was a simple one, dinner Saturday night and invite the family over without Joanna knowing. I can say it worked quite well considering she had no idea. It was a great evening and now Joanna says she is ready for Ruth to come. Joanna's actual birthday is this Tuesday (April 19th) however its a school night so you can forget staying up or out late. Also one of our friends from small group thinks that Ruth is coming on Tuesday, so we had to throw Joanna a party before it was too late. Enjoy the photos below.

How Quickly Life Changes

Well my last post was Thursday evening and wow how the past 48 hours have been a total roller coaster! It all started Friday afternoon after school. I met my mom at Babies R Us to help her pick out a shower gift  for Ruth and I. I was having my big baby shower Saturday and I was very excited. I also had a whole evening planned with Bryce. We were going to go to dinner at McAlisters so I could satisfy my craving for rotel and chips as well as cheese cake. Then we were going to shop for a cute spring dress for me to wear to my shower. (Bryce is such a sweetheart!) Then we were going to go home and watched Tangled. - Very nice evening planned!!

Well none of that came to past. After I left mom, I was heading home and going to get a snack because I was getting hungry and I knew dinner would be a little while later. Well I was driving down Lakeland and about to pass my school (Highland Bluff). I had a green light so I was moving at a good speed and an expedition was turning into the church on my side of the street. He apparently thought he had a green light as well because he kept on coming and the next thing I knew, was that I had been hit and pushed into the other lane. He got out of the car and asked if I was ok which I was still trying to figure out. Of course he freaked out more when he saw that I was pregnant. I was doing a body check to make sure I was all ok and trying to breath to see if Ruth was still moving. At that point in time I noticed I couldn't see - scary like 1/2 second until I realized my glasses had been thrown off and were down by my feet. (I really am blind without my glasses by the way!!) :)

Thank heavens I had 2 people stop to help. There was a couple (Lynn & Richard Evers) who were angels in disguise!! They stayed with me and helped direct traffic around me because I could not move the car because my wheel was jammed and I could not move my steering wheel. I called Bryce and tried to explain the situation without becoming a ball of tears - hard to do by the way!! While he was on his way, they called the tow truck and all the emergency people, who were there in no time and were great - super nice and friendly!!
Unfortunately, the guy said that he had a green arrow and that I had run the light. However, I know I had the green light and the 2 witnesses also confirmed my story of having a green light. I just hate that though and hope that this gets cleared up quickly.  Here is a picture of my poor little car!! : (

As you can see God was watching out for me!! A few inches to the left and my airbags would have deployed and a few inches to the right and I would have been eating glass and sitting in my passenger seat. God is so good!!

Bryce arrived and he had called the doctor and explained the situation and she said to come on in so we could just make sure Ruth was ok. So off to the hospital we went. We were admitted to the ER and I was put through the works (blood, urine, physical...) They also ordered a bio-sonogram for Ruth. That lasted 45 minutes and checked and measured everything they could from my fluid to her breathing. She was doing just fine and measuring at about 6 pounds!! (All I could think was crap - I still have 5 weeks to go - slow down girlfriend!!)

After that we were moved from the ER to the labor and delivery floor and I was hooked up to a fetal monitor for her heartbeat and to measure any contractions. Unfortunately, I was having contractions that were pretty significant and they were getting closer together; like 5 minutes apart. So that meant a 24 hour stay for me and baby - just wonderful!!! So that meant no baby shower for me on Saturday. However, they were more worried about getting the contractions to stop so I was given statol  - which HOLY COW is all i can say!! I was in the middle of eating a Popsicle when it hit me and I couldn't even finish the Popsicle because I couldn't get it to my mouth!! Bryce just kept chuckling at me!! All I could do was sleep so that's what I did and the contractions did stop thank goodness. But man you want to talk about the most uncomfortable sleep - with the IV in the right arm, the blood pressure cuff and big scratch on the left arm, 2 fetal monitors wrapped around my big belly plus being a little sore and stiff from the accident - not real easy to find a perfect spot!! Plus the IV of fluids making you have to pee every hour!! UGH!

But Saturday came and Bryce was the best husband and went to the shower in my stead and apparently made quite a splash - he's such a nut!! They had a great time and my mom, grandma, and aunt came to see me in the hospital and keep me company while he was having fun and eating my good food! - which by the way I still had not eaten anything since Friday Lunch!! STARVING!!! Finally the doctor came in and told me that everything looked good and the contractions had subsided so I could go home at around 4 and I could finally eat!! YEAH!!! My sweet daddy brought us Zaxby's for lunch and Bryce brought me a piece of cake from the shower for dessert!! (My two best men who bring me food!! :)

Finally at 4 we were discharged and went home!! Thank you Lord!! Bryce had saved a lot of the shower gifts for me to open and so we had a fun afternoon opening gifts and imagining Ruth in the cute little outfits. I can't say thank you enough to everyone who attended as well as a HUGH thanks to my hostesses, everyone raved about how wonderful the shower was! Too prove it, here are some cute pictures of Bryce at the shower hamming it up! LOL!!

Most Recent News

Well all I can say is thank goodness it's Thursday evening and all I have left is Friday of this week!! I don't think i could have made it another day - Friday is a stretch anyway! I had my 34 week check up on Wednesday. Ruth is doing fine, heartbeat was good and size was measuring on track. I am not dilated but just getting to that uncomfortable stage!! My blood pressure was up and so I was told that we were going to watch it and I am to try to take it easy. (I really just rolled my eyes thinking - Do you know what my job is and how April and May are the most stressful times for a teacher!!) We will see how far I get until she tells me I have to quit. I'd like to say I might could manage it on my own but my class this year has some doosies that just cause the blood pressure to rise!! So I just have to remember to BREATH!!! I go back in 2 weeks and then I start my weekly check-ups. It's getting closer and we are getting excited but nervous at the same time. Just can't wait to meet her.

Well last night was the frist night that we actually made out a foot sticking out of my belly - WEIRD!!! She has gotten on this schedule of being very active right as I am trying to get comfortable for bed. (Which figures!!) So we just take that time to marvel at God's work and how amazing this experience has been. However, if I could make out a body part that is a little too much for me. I preceded to try to push her foot back in which she promptly pulled back and gave me a swift hard kick! UGH girls - not even out and already testing me! Hopefully she'll grow out of this before the 2's or better yet the teenage years!

Well I have to brag on my wonderful husband!! He has been the best cook for me (which probably explains the 6 pound weight gain in 2 weeks!!) Tonight he made country fried steak, mash potatoes, butter beans, and homemade gravy!! Can we just say YUMMY!!!!! Last night was chicken and dumplings and black eyed peas!! MAN my guy can cook!! (Thanks Mrs. Pam, you raised a good one and I got lucky enough to catch him!! LOL) He is also the best support person I could have right now. He cleans and takes care of me in the best ways!! God bless my husband!!

Well, I have a shower this Saturday and I am so excited!! Can't wait to see everyone there! Blog update to follow I am sure!!

Well that's all for now so have a great Friday everyone!

Tummy exercises

So last night Ruth was being very active and so I thought why not tape her so she can see what she put mamma through before she even made her appearance. When looking at the video my knee caps looks like growths on my belly - very weird! Oh well I hope you get a "KICK" out this. I know Bryce did!

Spring Break Week

Well this past week has been a full one. To start off with we had Joanna's college roommate come down and spend a few days with us. It was good to see her and of course Joanna really enjoyed the time. I would post a picture and show all the "fun" things that happened but the two of them never took a picture!! SO you will have to take my word for it.

On Wednesday we had our last sonogram appointment, so we were excited to see our little girl. Joanna measured right on schedule so it appears that May 8th is still a go, however Joanna said she is fine if she decides to come a week or two early. Ok so in case you do not know you can actually take a DVD with you and they will record your sonogram. Yeah they don't really "advertise" this but if you have a DVD RW+ then you are good to go. We found out about this so we were prepared this time. I also took it upon myself to play a little dumb about the 4-D technology. I simply asked a few questions, and of course we are "too late" to schedule that separate appointment, however the sonogram tech showed us what we missed out on, check this out...

I don't want my photo taken, just let me sleep!!

I had to leave on Wednesday for New Orleans for the rest of the week for work so it gave Joanna some time at home alone. She took advantage of this and started to packing of her classroom.  As she said she is as packed up as can be for now so that is one last thing that she will have to worry with.

Also this weekend was our annual crawfish boil with our small group. Talk about a perfect day, great weather, food, and fellowship

March comes in like a Lion!!

Well 10 days of antibiotics later and my upper respiratory infection turned into a lovely sinus infection which caused me to have another round of antibiotics!! I just finished that one on Friday so hopefully I can continue to recover and get a clean bill of health! Ruth is definitely taking all the good parts of me that I need! Like my immune system - especially to fight off colds during allergy season - little sucker!!

I had my 30 week check-up this past Wednesday. Ruth was all good with a heartbeat of 150 and a few good swift kicks to the Doppler! She's an active little one! I can definitely attest to that. I really think sometimes she has invited friends over for a dance party in my uterus!! Bryce really gets a "kick" out of feeling her move and even seeing her move. I put a pill bottle on my stomach last night and we watched it get kicked around for like 5 min straight - AH the joys of watching her now - just can't wait to actually put her between us and see her move - ( I know my stomach will enjoy the break!! ;)
Our next apt is coming up March 16th and we will get to see her on sonogram one last time before she actually gets here. Kinda nervous and excited at the same time. Bryce can't wait either - he's already smitten!

Well during all this, my fabulous 3rd grade team from school threw me my first baby shower!! IT WAS GREAT!!! They really went all out for it as you can see from the pictures! I received some great stuff for Miss Ruth!

I love this outfit! I am thinking this is what Ruth will come home in!

Also I have been very lax in keeping up with belly pictures so I had Bryce take some today at 31 weeks along! Can't believe that she will be here in 9 weeks or less!!

Blitz also is looking forward to meeting Ruth! He's so crazy!

Well I think that's all the updating I can think of right now! I just keep telling myself one more week and then Spring Break is here and I get a week off! I CAN'T WAIT!!! ;)
